Winter is approaching fast and it’s bringing those dreaded winter blues along with it. You know those times where the ground is blanketed with snow and it’s just so cold outside you don’t want to do anything because you just can’t seem to get warm enough. When you’re at the store gathering the paint chips the lighting there always looks different than it does in your home. Here’s how light affects paint color:

  • Natural light will show the truest color
  • Incandescent lighting brings out the warmer tones and yellows
  • Fluorescent lighting cast sharp blue tones

Always take paint chips home to test them in your light to make sure the hues you choose will look as amazing as you want them to. If the walls that you are painting are near a large window it may be too bright for that room, but if it’s located on a wall with indirect lighting then it may be the perfect choice for an accent wall.

When choosing your colors most people use the color wheel. Keep in mind that you can even base it off of the way you dress and what colors you pair together every day, also think about the type of space you are trying to create.
